The island of sun, sand… and lava, Tenerife’s tourist scene has also erupted in recent years. Staying at Select Sunningdale you are perfectly positioned to explore the very best of this island’s range of sights and activities, and we make it very easy for you to experience these for yourself – simply ask our reception for an itinerary of excursions. Below, we’ve listed some of our highlights:
1. Mount Teide
The imposing and volcanic Mount Teide is a natural focal point for many coach tours, with some having the option to take a cable car up to its summit at 12,000ft for spectacular views over Tenerife and other Canary Islands. In your air-conditioned coach, all tours begin with an ascent from sea level to 2,370m, through the historic pine forests to some truly spectacular lunar landscapes carved into existence over thousands of years and countless volcanic eruptions. You will see the dramatic changes in landscape from the subtropical vegetation at the coastline, to the alpine tree-line in the National Park of Las Cañadas.
2. La Gomera
Step back in time and be taken by coach and ferry to see the jewel of the Canary Islands, La Gomera, where you will enjoy a full guided island tour and traditional Gomeran lunch. La Gomera is a beautiful island off the coast of Tenerife and is the second smallest of the seven main islands of the Canaries group. The island is reached by ferry and in your air conditioned coach, you can follow in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus before he weighed anchor and set off in search of the new world in 1492.The island is of volcanic origin, circular in shape and rises to 1.487 metres at its peak. La Gomera is a very green and fertile island and is a favourite among nature and wildlife lovers.
Take a trip on-board an air-conditioned coach to Loro Parque and Siam Park – or both, and you’re sure to have fun times that will last in your memory bank for a long time. Siam Park was voted TripAdvisor Travellers Choice ‘Best Waterpark in the World’ in 2016, thanks to its adrenalin-filled water slides and attractions. Whereas Loro Parque – home to Killer Whales, Dolphins, Tigers and Gorillas to name a few – was voted TripAdvisor’s best Zoo in Europe and 2nd in the world. Now that’s a big incentive to pay a visit.
4. Quad Safari
Book on a Quad Safari for an exciting and adventurous way to see the natural side of Tenerife. Follow a route that takes you through the beautiful countryside of Arona, Adeje and Vilaflor where the scenery will take your breath away as you travel across forest, desert and volcanic elements.
5. Flamenco Show
For the best evening entertainment on the island, book a trip to watch Malizia, a dazzling musical where flamenco, opera and dance go hand in hand. Hosted at Pirámide de Arona in Los Cristianos, one of the largest auditoriums in Europe, Malizia is an adapted version of the opera Rigoletto by Verdi. Tickets are available six days a week (excluding Mondays), and for a small additional charge, you can experience the VIP treatment.
